This course is approved by the NM MCLE Board for 31 general and 4.5 ethics/professionalism CLE credits. We will report a maximum of 22 credits (18 general, 4 ethics) from this course to NM MCLE, 11 (9 general, 2 ethics) of which MCLE will carry over to meet 2026 requirements, as provided by MCLE Rule 18-201.

This class will meet in person unless otherwise advised.

Attendance is mandatory for all classes, both weekends.

This is a “learn by doing” course. Whether you are new to depositions or want to refresh your skills, this class will give you the tools you need to be successful.

Have you ever read a transcript and thought, “Wow, that is a different depo than I remember!” Or, "Hmmm, I thought the witness said. . ." Do you want to know how to deal with obstreperous counsel? How to effectively prepare your witnesses and defend the deposition? How to get the answers you seek under court-mandated time constraints? How to get optimal information from expert witnesses? How to test theories and close off avenues of escape? After this course, there will be nothing you cannot handle in taking and defending an effective deposition. This intensive two weekend course offered by the School of Law to current upper class law students and members of the legal profession will show you how to more effectively plan for, take and defend depositions. Attendance is mandatory for all classes, both weekends. Participants take and defend depositions of lay and expert witnesses with critiques by and guidance from some of New Mexico’s best trial lawyers.
